Annual prediction - 2023

It’s time for my annual prediction.

In 2022, I predicted we’d see mass adoption of VR headsets this year by U.S. households. I got this wrong as VR headset sales shrank. That being said, it does feel like more people are using VR for everyday things like fitness and meditation. And Apple’s potential entry into the VR market is rumored for 2023. Regardless, VR is still very much in the experimentation phase and I don’t see that changing in 2023.

In 2023, my first prediction centers around remote work. I think we’ll see a big swing back to co-location as a working requirement for knowledge workers. Due to the economic conditions, power is swinging back to employers and I think we’ll see companies start to clamp down on perks in an effort to increase accountability and get more done with less. I also predict we’ll see meaningful adoption of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) into our personal creative workflows. Generative AI generally refers to AI that generates new content like images, video, audio, and text. I think we’ll see a surge in people using this type of AI to save time completing simple writing, design, and coding tasks.
