GroupCurrent has shut down

In May 2019, I co-founded a company called GroupCurrent. In October 2020, my partner and I shut it down.

GroupCurrent provided outsourced management to member-based groups such as nonprofits, communities, and associations. From July 2019 to June 2020, GroupCurrent generated $60,000 in revenue from a single non profit client called PandoLabs.

While GroupCurrent (the company) failed, the experience was a success. Here are a few reasons why.

First, my partner and I built a strong, trust-based relationship. Our bond will benefit us as we pursue separate endeavors.

Second, we made some money. It wasn’t much. But, we got our initial investment back and some more. This small win increased my entrepreneurial-esteem.

Third, we improved PandoLabs. For a full year, we managed PandoLabs’ entire operations and reported to the Board. We converted it to a member-based community and installed a new revenue model. PandoLabs is now Park City’s entrepreneurial community. It's focused on connecting Park City entrepreneurs to one another and with the rest of Utah. PandoLabs lives on.

Fourth, we increased our connections in the Park City startup community. Through GroupCurrent, I developed relationships with many new entrepreneurs and investors.

Fifth, it provided me with a sandbox to rediscover my strengths and face my weaknesses. GroupCurrent helped me regain the conviction I lost when I was asked to resign from the company I built.

GroupCurrent improved me. And I’m grateful for it.
